Here’s the upgrade all you comment spam haters have been waiting for! With this release of WP-SpamFree — our WordPress spam plugin — I made the installation process super-easy by eliminating the need to edit external files. This version is truly plug and play. I’ve been working on making this possible since version 1.01 and finally got the bugs worked out.

UPDATE 01/22/2008:
It was brought to my attention that version 1.3 inadvertently disabled reception of trackbacks and pingbacks altogether. I released version 1.3.1 today to fix this problem. If you have previously downloaded 1.3, please upgrade to 1.3.1.

Thank you for this update. I already installed the previous version of this plugin about one month ago, and it has worked wonders for stopping the comment spam. In fact, I receive practically no spam at all now except for very sporadic instances of people leaving borderline spammy comments so that they can get backlinks and take advantage of my DoFollow status.

Great, now you’ve gone and done it! Here my “stats” were just beginning to build up really good – now I am never gonna get far. Oh – my “spam eaten” stats that is… since I installed SpamFree a couple of weeks ago the counter is rusting up.
Thanks for a great plug in. Going to get 1.3 working right now!
Hey is there a counter option for SpamFree? It makes me feel so good to see that thousands of would-be spammers did not achieve their goal!

@Karlonia: You’re welcome! Thanks for the positive feedback!

@Kaz: LOL. Awesome. You’re welcome! That’s a great suggestion and one I’ve been thinking of adding in the future. I’ll definitely put it on the to do list. Thanks for your feedback and support!

I’ve noticed that the “Akismet has protected your site from xxxx spam comments.” counter is increasing after I’ve installed WP-SpamFree 1.3. But I’ve not received any spam-comments that has been stopped by Akismet.

    Do WP-SpamFree 1.3 use the Akismet-counter?

  6. Scott Allen on January 22nd, 2008 11:47 am

Hi Ken. Sometimes Akismet will block a spam (commonly a pingback or trackback from a known spammer) and the counter will increase without anything showing up. Currently WP-SpamFree doesn’t have a counter feature, but I’m looking at adding one in future versions. You’re most likely not seeing any new spam comments in the queue because WP-SpamFree is blocking them like a ninja. :)

@Ken: You’re welcome! That’s what we like to hear! :)

@Aka: You’re welcome! Excellent! Having the plugin in multiple languages would be fantastic…let’s talk!

Ok. I’m bored with my blog now thank you very much.

I used to log in daily and delete as much as 20-30 spam comments, 2 or three times a day.

Using a cocktail of Akismet, Bad Behavior and WP-Spamfree, I have not had one single instance of spam since I installed it.

Not even one for Akismet to block. NOTHING. ZERO. ZIP. ZILCH. NADA.

    Thanks for a OUTSTANDING product!!!
